Helping to promote healthy lifestyles and active living in our community
The Club began meeting on November 22, 2006 and will begin its
inaugural summer in 2007. The club started as a partnership project
between the City of Dryden Recreation Department and the Northwestern Health Unit.
Special thanks goes to the Dryden Canoe and Kayak Club Founding Directors and all of the community members who have supported
the development of this club.
Over the summer of 2007 the Canoe and Kayak Club accomplished numerous
goals including; training two flatwater kayak instructors,
purchasing 5 kayaks and 1 tandem kayak, flatwater kayaking
courses were run, one whitewater kayaking course in Manitoba, entering
a Dragon Boat team into the Canada Day Races and offering a
number of DEMO days.
2008 is looking to be a busy year, with items such as;
Adding 2 new canoes to the equipment building indoor storage rack
- Purchasing maps of the region
- Begin tracking portage conditions
- Offer a number of courses and 2 guided kayaking trip
- Working on the development of the Trans Canada Trail Canoe Routes
- Promoting water sports in the region
